Hi Rita

Sorry about the silence last week, but I managed to clear my desk by six last Friday - yippee!

Thought about you a lot over the weekend, wondering how it was all going for you in your hut! I wished that I could have sent you flowers, or at least a card or something.

I took delivery of the new computer at 8.30am yesterday - apparently it went to visit The Art House in person on the way, so at least one of us has ;-)

Anyway, I've had a few teething problems, but I expect that you have as well . . . the good news is that I've been able to build the basic site today, and will get it up asap for feedback.

You may want to think about the following in particular:

I've assigned each of us a colour - which colour would you actually like, as opposed to the one that I've given you? Tell me, and I'll change it.

Do you have decent copies of the images that you sent in with your application, for me to put up with your artist's statement (I've only got truly bad photocopies).

Can you write descriptions of the images that you've sent me so that I can programme them in for people using text-only browsers?

btw, I've tried to iron out typos as far as possible, to make it easier for people who use voice packages on their computers.

I had a really interesting chat with an abbey fan last week - someone I'd persuaded to give up a couple of days of her holiday proofing my Bettany Press book - I didn't actually know she was an abbey fan until I mentioned the residency to her. Anyway, she said that one thing that appeals to her about visiting abbeys is the knowledge that they all follow a familiar pattern - with the exception of Mount Grace . . .but it was visiting Mount Grace in the 1970s that got her into abbeys in the first place. I've asked her to think more about what attracts her to visit them - bet she wished that she'd left the country for her week off! But it's interesting, isn't it.

The other thing that I thought about last week was the dark side of the contemplative life, where you can't escape from yourself . . .

Anyway, can't wait to hear from you. (Next week I hope to have the site programmed in such a way that we can chat live online at mutually convenient times, both to each other and to anyone else who's interested.)

All the very best
