For Ava

Moving freely in my chair
People turn to stop and stare
Pity speaking from their eyes
Or disgust without disguise.
I am happy, I am free
Is that why you look at me?
I am young and I am bold
I won’t do what I am told.
Curl up inside and die of shame?
No. I have a different name.
I am proud and I am strong
Proving all the doubters wrong.
My chair is here to liberate
So look again and stop your hate.
