The Independent (2 May 1994) reported that between 3,500 and 4,000 hospital admissions for bleeding ulcers annually result from the side-effects of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Naproxen. Studies of the over-60s showed that between five and ten per cent of patients admitted died as a result.
