Signs
Ruth Pejcic with Diana Addison and Mark Hammond

This panel shows a section of one of the signs permanently installed
in Rugby Art Gallery, Museum and Library's foyer area,
directing people to the facilities within the building.
They were designed by Ruth Pejcic
in partnership with Diana Addison and Mark Hammond.

Diana is a member of the Rugby Association for the Blind
and Mark is a resident of Rugby.
Diana and Mark are both visually impaired.
The brief was to create signs that are clear and informative
while being artworks in their own right.

Ruth worked with Diana and Mark to produce the text design and content
based on the needs of visually impaired users and sign-making research.
They also researched signage used in other art galleries and museums.
The final designs for the text were approved
by members of Rugby Association for the Blind.

The imagery on the signs were created by Ruth
based on pictures of her own damaged retinas.
The original mono-prints incorporate text and texture
and represent the decline in the retina during diabetic retinopathy.

The signs were funded by Rugby Art Gallery and Museum
The City Gallery, Leicester
The Art and Sports Grant Panel of Rugby Borough Council
and the Department of Libraries, Heritage and Trading Standards,
Warwickshire County Council.
