Light at Our Finger Tips
Susana Shaw and Stijn Ossevoort
Light at Our Finger Tips is a sculptural
ring
designed to provide an extra source of light
for visually impaired people.
The ring responds to a sense of frustration
experienced by Susana, when attempting to see
in a low light environment.
This prototype has been developed by Susana
with visually impaired women
from the Haringey Phoenix Community Centre
in North London.
The blue beam provides a cool yet intense source
of light,
even in well lit situations.
When not in use, the ring acts as a piece of light sculpture,
providing a constant source of visual delight.
The ring can be activated by whistling.
When you blow into the mouth-piece,
the light goes out like a candle
