Pink Spiky Chair
Ticky Lowe with Henshaw Arts and Crafts Centre, Knaresborough

Pink Spiky Chair adds sensuality to the old-fashioned ‘comfy’ arm-chair
The outside of the chair bristles with long pink spikes
protecting the sitter from the threats of the outside world.

The seat of the chair is upholstered in soft blue velvet
creating a contrast of both colour, material and mood.
Strong colour contrast allows the chair to be seen easily by
a visually impaired person.

Vibrating spiky cushions, in a variety of material
add extra sensory stimulation to the chair,
Pink Spiky Chair is a piece of tactile sculpture in its own right

The chair was designed in consultation with staff
and users of Henshaw’s Arts and Crafts Centre,
an arts organisation for visually impaired people.

Henshaw’s Society for the Blind was established in 1837
It provides a comprehensive range of residential, nursing,
education, training and community care services
for blind and partially sighted people of all ages
and from establishments in the North of England and North Wales.
